A major forum dedicated to international migration issues was held in Tashkent

On 18–19 May, the Tashkent International Migration Forum was held in the capital. The two-day forum brought together representatives from more than forty countries across Central Asia, Asia, Europe, the United States, and other regions. In total, more than 600 participants attended the event. The forum once again demonstrated the growing role of migration in sustainable development and economic stability. According to the International Organization for Migration’s 2026 World Migration Report, there are currently about 304 million international migrants worldwide. Of these, 168 million are labor migrants, who make a significant contribution to the global labor market and economic growth. Within the framework of the forum, issues such as expanding legal migration pathways, protecting migrants’ rights, and strengthening international cooperation were discussed with the participation of representatives of governments, the United Nations, international organizations, the private sector, and civil society. The forum was attended by the Director of the Migration Agency of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Behzod Musayev; the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan, Sabina Mahl; the Representative of the International Organization for Migration for Europe and Central Asia, Arthur Erken; as well as other officials, who addressed issues of international cooperation in migration, migrants’ rights, and effective management of labor mobility. The second day of the forum was dedicated to demographic changes and global labor mobility. Plenary sessions discussed training professionals in line with the needs of the international labor market, protecting migrants’ rights, and ensuring the orderly organization of labor migration. The private employment agency Getwork also actively participated in the forum. The organization held meetings with international employers, signed agreements on developing legal and safe labor migration, and establishing new partnerships.
